SYNOPSIS
Seven year old Thomas, the only child of his parents, desperately wants a little brother. One day, he is told that to get a baby brother his parents will have to kiss. Since his quarrelling parents won’t kiss any longer, little Thomas takes it upon himself to make them do the yucky act!
DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
Growing up as an only child, I yearned for a sibling but never had one. The pain of being a lonely kid shapes the story, characters and events of Little Thomas. However this film doesn’t wallow in self-pity. Instead, I have peppered my personal childhood experiences with light-hearted humour and a hint of magic so that a certain joie-de-vivre permeates the world of Little Thomas. The quaint atmosphere of Goa in the early 90’s lends the story a mellow, nostalgic charm.
Eschewing a limited childish tone, I have used the story of Thomas’ parents’ struggle to keep an old family-owned Bakery alive, even as they struggle with the competition engendered by foreign companies post liberalisation in the early 90’s, to underscore the breezy screenplay with gravitas.
For me, this is a charming, pick-me-up family comedy. The story of hope, of innocence… Of the desire for a family that feels whole. It is a deeply personal project, for me, and for my main crew who have been a part of the film since it was conceived.
