ECHOES OF LONGING: A CENTENARY MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO GURU DUTT
In Guru Dutt’s cinema, music is never mere accompaniment—it is memory, longing, and the quiet ache between two glances. This centenary tribute traces that fragile beauty, returning to the songs that made yearning an art form.
Performed by acclaimed interpreters of classic film song, the evening unfolds like a film without images—its story told through verses, silences, and the tremor between two chords. From the haunting ache of “ Waqt Ne Kiya Kya Haseen Sitam ” to the restless yearning of “ Jaane Woh Kaise ”, each refrain becomes a bridge between past and present, screen and stage.
Gathering beloved melodies from Pyaasa, Kaagaz Ke Phool, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, Chaudhvin Ka Chand, and other masterpieces, the night invites audiences into a world where every note lingers like a shadow, every pause recalls what has slipped away, and the music plays on long after the final song fades.
Two Afghan superstars, one explosive night — Mozhdah and Mojgan unite on stage for Echoes of Her Voice: A Celebration of Afghan Music & Cinematic Reverie.
In celebration of Afghan cinema and storytelling—and marking the Canadian premiere of Sima’s Song—this special evening honours the rich musical traditions that have shaped and sustained Afghan culture through centuries of change.
Featuring performances by acclaimed Afghan artists, the program blends classical melodies, folk rhythms, and contemporary compositions, weaving together sounds that speak of resilience, longing, and hope. It is both a tribute to the artistry that flourishes despite exile and upheaval, and an invitation to experience the textures, colours, and emotions that infuse Afghan storytelling on and beyond the screen.
An evening of music, memory, and connection—where every note carries the spirit of a people and the pulse of their stories
