SYNOPSIS
Thomas, a timid clown who wasn’t funny enough to make it in entertainment, gets placed in a domestic help position for Jennifer, a woman who needs assistance managing the day-to-day as she works on a never ending to-do list. Thomas is good at taking orders, but his job performance begins to suffer once he ‘notices’ the abandoned children in Jennifer’s backyard.
DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
This film is a wonderful example of a fruitful virtual collaboration between the director and the writer amidst Covid. I am based in Mumbai, India and the writer, Julianne Jigour is based in Los Angeles, USA. At the height of the pandemic, we collaborated to stage virtual plays on Instagram and thus discovered that one of Julianne’s play scripts can actually be made into a beautiful film. We have never met in person but are proud and happy to present to you – ‘Domestic Help’. The film is an artistic tribute to my favourite film-makers – Abbas Kiarostami, Sidney Lumet and my fellow countryman, Shekhar Kapur.
