SYNOPSIS
When a homeless tannery owner keeps finding apartments reserved for “foreigners only,” he’ll do whatever it takes to have skin in the game.
DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
Foreigners Only. You’ll find this sign all over Bangladesh and its Asian neighbours. Apartments rented out only to foreigners. Clubs, bars, beaches with foreigner zones. Preferably light-skinned foreigners. Hasan, a Bangladeshi local looking for an apartment to rent, is fed up with these signs – with our obsession with foreign skin. How far will he go to get a roof over his head? FOREIGNERS ONLY is a post-colonial horror/comedy that takes our collective imperial hangover and cuts it open with a knife. As a Bangladeshi filmmaker straddling a life between Dhaka and Los Angeles, the film is a deeply personal, existential expression of the lengths we go to mutilate our identities to belong.
