SYNOPSIS

Small-Time Cinema is a documentary that follows two Youtube filmmaking groups, one living in Balochistan, Pakistan, and one, in Assam, India. The film follows these groups, as they make space for their complex history and cultures, beyond a blanket Indian or Pakistani identity.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

India and Pakistan have been at odds with one another since the birth of both nations. Both countries refuse to admit they have a shared history and address the pain of losing one another. Instead, they are always war-mongering blaring from news channels on both sides.
This film is an attempt to connect sides of the two countries that they themselves have neglected—finding connections in places that seem the most unlikely and drawing attention there. The idea is to shift the narrative of India and Pakistan to be just about partition and focus on their equal love for cinema and Bollywood.
