The true story of an unlikely romance in 1982 at a disco competition in Mysore, India.
DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
The year is 1982, when my parents converge at University in Mysore, India. She’s an outsider from a tiny island off the coast of Africa. He’s a show-off from a high caste family in Bangalore. They met at the school’s annual disco competition. My mom was in the audience. My dad danced (and won). Things got groovy. 25 years later they would set off together to a far away country with their two young boys, but their story begins on this magical night in Mysore. The immigrant’s identity is often overlooked. We are a number, a stamp, a visa, an application, or a news headline. This film challenges that notion. I want our audience to feel the humanity and hope of the people behind the moniker “immigrant,” years before their eventual journey to the West.
