SYNOPSIS
‘Thand’ follows Anya, a first-generation Indo-Canadian teenager, and the disconnect she shares with her mother due to their contrasting cultural upbringings. After one night of their ritual disputes, Anya decides to fulfill her desire of having ‘typical’ Western high school experiences and goes behind her mother’s back to do so. However, Anya quickly realizes that perhaps her mother’s lectures have some truth in them.
DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
Devki Patel is a student filmmaker pursuing a BFA Honours Double Major in Film Production and Psychology at York University. She hopes to pursue a career as a director and producer. Devki believes there is the ability to create positive change at the heart of storytelling, which she hopes to achieve in her work! In the past two years, Devki has directed many short films across different genres, with a keen interest in dramatic narrative and documentary filmmaking.
